As one of Australia’s most respected contemporary artists, diesel recently celebrated 15 years in a sold out one night only show with a three-part performance encompassing solo acoustic, ‘stripped back’ band and ‘slam dunk’ electric, at Sydney’s Metro Theatre on Wednesday 31st March 2004
The show was recorded live, resulting in a electric night filming of diesel’s first DVD, The First Fifteen ’89-’04 Live, captured on high definition video with Dolby 5.1 surround sound, is diesel at his best.
Diesel first erupted out of Perth in ’88 with his band The Injectors. Their debut self-titled album sold over 300,000 copies and produced a collection of hits that continue to remain classics Australia wide. It received an ARIA for Best Selling Album of the Year and also earned the group an ARIA for Best New Talent.
The young musician launched his solo career with the release of the single Love Junk in 1991, followed by his debut solo album, Hepfidelity, under the name diesel in 1992. It also sold over 300,000 copies and delivered timeless hits such as Tip of My Tongue and Man Alive. ARIA acknowledged diesel’s achievements as a solo artist with Best Album and Best Male Artist.
In 1993 the release of his third album, The Lobbyist, reached No.1 on the Australian charts, securing the ARIA for Best Male Artist for the second consecutive year. Solid State Rhyme released in 1994 was another multi-platinum smash that produced All Come Together and Fifteen Feet of Snow. The next few years produced his blues album Short Cool Ones - recorded with Chris Wilson – and a move to New York in 1996 inspired Soul Lost Companion, an album diesel co-produced with Jerry Harrison (Talking Heads). It spawned the tracks Dig, Satellite and the emotive Darling Of The Universe.
In 2001 diesel returned to Australia, formed a new band, toured frequently and recorded his first studio album since 1999, Hear. After forming his own independent label - aptly named Hepfidelity Records - he released singles Getta Kick, Battleworn, Angel Face and the emotive and live favorite, Faith & Gasoline.
Performing in front of enthusiastic crowds at sold-out gigs throughout Australia, diesel continues to prove his success as a writer, singer, musician, producer and musical chameleon.
